Members of the West Point Society of the Tennessee Valley gathered Saturday at Valley Hill Country Club for the annual contest between the Army Black Knights and Navy Midshipmen.

“It’s a fun time to get together,” Jon Warnke, president of the West Point Society of the Tennessee Valley, said. “We all have such a common bond, being at West Point as students or instructors and parents of cadets. They’re all here.”

With over 300 active members the West Point Society filled the whole ballroom of the country club, all yelling “Go Army! Beat Navy!”

The room was filled with cheers or groans with every play.

“The whole Army-Navy rivalry, I don’t think there’s anything like it in the world,” Warnke said. “This one game we’re enemies and we're opponents fighting. The rest of the 364 days of the year they’re our teammates. It’s the same ice cream, different flavors.”

Army beat Navy 17-11 in the 124th annual football classic at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, to claim the 10th Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy in academy history.
